UNDERNEATH
It is springtime in Denmark, and every year it amazes me how bare branches become filled with leaves, how the brown dirt suddenly turns green with grass, and yellow, blue, white and purple with flowers, how everything seems to be waiting just underneath the ground.
There is always something underneath – and, luckily, it is often something positive. I have tried to illustrate this sentiment in this series, toying with the idea that there are layers to everything.
Blessed
Sometimes nature brings small blessings: An animal crossing your path, flowers breaking through the hard ground, or a bird trusting you enough to nest close to your home.
Empty Nest
Creativity comes and goes. It isn’t something you can force. Sometimes you see brilliant ideas everywhere, other times you just sit there with a blank stare. As an artist, I know this feeling, but luckily it never stays that way. The nest never stays empty.
In Perfect Balance
When the sun breaks through the sky and everything aligns around you. When light and shadow find unity. That’s when you can shed your last layers of protection. And that’s where you find the perfect balance.
Under the Tree of Life
Even in the harshest of surroundings, when the walls are towering around you, figuratively or literally, there are solace to find – often in nature. This feeling, I have tried to convey in this motif – in the meeting between the unforgiving concrete-like structures and a single, strong representative of nature.
The Wonderer
Have you ever tried to answer a child’s questions – only to see them wander off to the next thing that catches their attention? The answer was never the point. It’s not always important to know why a flower looks so perfect, or what inspired a treasured work of art – sometimes it’s enough to simply experience the wonder of it all
Sharing
There is something deeply intimate about this motif. A shadowlike person offering her heart. The surroundings glow in a red light. And the doves, ready to spread their wings. We are not just looking at a scene. We are witnessing what lies beneath it all.
